Common Low Testosterone Questions
What Is Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
We’ll begin the answer to this question by explaining what normal testosterone levels look like. Healthy testosterone levels range from 350 ng/dL to 1,000 ng/dL, and age plays a large role in determining whether a man’s testosterone levels are healthy. Testosterone replacement therapy is the process of restoring testosterone levels to healthy levels if they are lower than 350 ng/dL or if they are significantly lower than they should be at a patient’s age.
There are several methods that can be used to treat low testosterone, including:
- Skin patches
- Mouth tablets
- Pellet implants
Which Testosterone Replacement Therapy Method Is Most Effective?
At Men’s Vitality Center, we choose to use bio-identical and FDA-approved testosterone cypionate injections in our treatments, as numerous studies have shown that testosterone injections are the most effective form of testosterone replacement therapy. Unlike gels, patches, implants, and tablets, injections are the only way to ensure that the body absorbs the maximum amount of testosterone delivered during treatment.
When Will I See Results From My Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
As noted above, injections are the most effective form of testosterone replacement therapy, and our patients see more pronounced results significantly faster than recipients of other methods. Injections are scheduled every seven days, and the majority of our patients see their low testosterone symptoms improving within 14 days. Each patient is different, however, so you should speak with your doctor in order to establish realistic expectations.
What Should I Expect During My Initial Appointment?
Your initial appointment will provide you with the opportunity to share your symptoms with our physicians, and we’ll ask you to fill out standard medical information forms in addition to a health history form. It’s always helpful for our physicians to have as much information about your health as possible, so try to come prepared to answer questions about your family’s health history in addition to your own. We’ll then perform a physical exam and draw your blood in order to measure your testosterone levels. You’ll receive a phone call within 24 to 48 hours to discuss your results, and we will schedule a follow-up appointment if we feel that you would benefit from low testosterone treatment.
