Salt can often be used as a preservative and can be overly present in pre-packaged foods.
Stick to the good fats
Not all fats are created equal. By limiting your consumption of saturated fats from animal and dairy products, you can decrease the risk of prostate cancer. Try switching to healthy fats, such as olive oil, avocados, or nuts.
Keep a consistent exercise routine
Studies have shown that exercise can be beneficial to overall prostate health and reducing your risk of cancer, heart disease, and a stroke. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise, three to four days a week. In a recent study, men who consumed ten or more portions of tomatoes a week cut their risk of prostate cancer by nearly 45 percent. Lycopene, the bright red pigment found in tomatoes, wards off the spread and multiplying of cancer cells in the body.
Don’t skip that morning coffee
According to a recent Harvard University study, men who drink at least six cups of coffee a day were 60 percent less likely to develop prostate cancer.
Get some sun
Insufficient levels of vitamin D can lead to an increased risk of several cancers, including prostate cancer. While sun exposure is an excellent and natural source of vitamin D, be sure to apply sunscreen frequently. If you can’t make it to the pool, vitamin D supplements are available at various grocery and convenience stores. Be sure to consult with your doctor on the safest dosage for you.
Skip the french fries
A recent study found that consuming fried foods once or more a week can lead to an increased risk of prostate cancer. High-heat cooking methods, like grilling or frying, can form dangerous carcinogens in foods like french fries, fried fish, chicken, and doughnuts.
